What RegDemand actually finds today, jurisdiction by jurisdiction -- and where coverage is genuinely limited, said plainly rather than implied away.
United States
SupportedRegulatory tracking draws on the Federal Register and, where an opportunity references a specific agency rulemaking, its underlying docket. Company discovery is grounded in two official, publicly queryable registries:
- SEC EDGAR -- public filers, searchable by SIC industry code, used to identify companies operating in an affected industry.
- GLEIF -- the Legal Entity Identifier registry, used for entity verification and cross-referencing.
This is the commercially supported part of the product: candidate buyers and vendors surfaced for US opportunities have gone through industry-code matching, negative filtering, and a Discovery Quality score reflecting how much evidence backs each match.
Outside the United States
Limited / experimentalRegulatory tracking extends to non-US sources (currently EU sources via EUR-Lex), so opportunities themselves are tracked internationally. Company discovery for those opportunities, however, depends on GLEIF's free-text entity search, which is not a comprehensive national business registry and does not support the industry-code filtering available for the US.
In practice this means non-US buyer/vendor candidate lists are shorter, lower confidence, and more likely to miss real affected companies than the US lists. We label this honestly in the product rather than presenting it as equivalent quality to US coverage.
Failure to discover a company is not evidence it's unaffected
A company not appearing as a candidate buyer or vendor for an opportunity does not mean that company is unaffected by the underlying regulation -- it may simply not have surfaced through the sources and search strategies described above, particularly outside the US. Use RegDemand's results as a starting point for research, not a complete or final list.
